What Data Do Producers Need to Issue Commodity EACs?

Producers do not need to build a registry from scratch, but they do need credible data to support certificate issuance.

Why data quality matters

Commodity EACs are only credible if they are tied to real, eligible production. That requires data.

The goal is not to create unnecessary burden for producers. The goal is to make the environmental attribute clear enough that buyers can trust it and reviewers can understand it.

Producer data checklist

CategoryExamplesWhy it matters
Production volumeMetric tons, units, ton-miles, output volume.Determines the maximum quantity of certificates that may be issued.
Production periodMonth, quarter, year, batch, shipment period.Defines the certificate vintage and timing.
Facility or project informationLocation, production pathway, equipment, project boundary.Connects the certificate to a specific production source.
Emissions or carbon intensity dataLCA, EPD, verified emissions factor, metered data.Supports the environmental attribute being issued.

What if a producer already has an LCA or EPD?

Existing lifecycle assessments, environmental product declarations, third-party certifications, and verification reports can be valuable inputs.

S3 Markets can help evaluate how existing documentation maps to certificate issuance and what additional information may be needed.

S3 Markets helps producers assess data readiness, structure certificate metadata, issue certificates, and provide buyer-facing documentation.
